Communities of Practice {COP’s}
Wow you have got to check this out, it is by Darren Sidnick, i read what he wrote and think this just about gave me what i needing to understand Communities of Practice.
In my field of work we are also very involved in CoP’s. Some of the paint companies and airbrush magazines will hold a type of getaway or airbrush bash through out the year, where it will last for usually 2-3 days and sometimes up to 1 week. These are held all over the USA and are starting to go International. Some of the top artists in the industry come together for these and paint along side other artist and share their secrets on how to paint the newest effects.
It is very interesting to find out that I have been effected by CoP’s and also participate in them on a daily basis. Every-time I gather with friends or people I work with; and we talk about what is new in our industry, or help each other understand how to paint the newest airbrush effect, or how to use the newest paint out on the market, we practice CoP’s. And most of the time we do this just for fun or because we want to educate each other more on what we love to do.

That is a great description of communities or practice. It helped me see where you were coming from when you related communities of practice to your recent job.

Thats awesome you have a have those events to attend. Do you set aside time to go each year to them? I made a promise to myself to get more active on the social side again. Kind of hard to get back on the horse sometimes, especially after all the hospitals and surgeries. I bet the knowledge you get from those workshops in invaluable.
